The coarse fishing is still very quiet. Yesterday Willie Riley & Co from Dundee enjoyed having a go on the new pond when it was dry and caught 13 fish up to 2.1/2 - 3 lbs. They had a variety of species using maggots and worms.
On Saturday the 29th March we had a qualifying match for the Ayrstrike competition where they are fishing for prize money of £3,500 which could rise if they get more competitors. The weather was wet with nice short intervals and 6 out of the 11 competitors caught fish.
We were pleased to see that the fish are in good condition after the long winter.
1st Tommy Lauriston Cumberanuld 5.320 Kg
2nd Martin Pearson Dunfermline 4.760 Kg
3rd Tony Ball Kirkintilloch 2.960 Kg
4th Steph Hunter Bellshill 2.520 Kg
The other pond we had beside the coarse pond has been reconstructed but unfortunately we could not have had any worse weather for carrying out this work so it will be a while before it will be in use.
The water and the fish are now in it as the fish we ordered last year so we had to take them. Once the grass is sown and the lillies and bullrushes are all planted it will look totally different by the end of the year.

It has been a varied week on the Coarse Fishery with hotspots changing form
day to day. I just got in some more of the very many different ground baits
which are used to tempt the fish onto the angler's hook. I always find it
interesting to see what the angler's are using and how much it varies.
Some of the Fly Fishers who go up for a look are surpirised to see how
complicated Coarse fishing is and not what they thought it was like.

which is what fishing is all about enjoyment and relaxation.
8th September, 2007
The Coarse Fishery had another 1,200 more fish put in this week with an
average of 1.1/4 lbs because we have found there was too much of poundage
was in all the big fish and not enough smaller ones. We are still learning
and it will take several years for the fishery to get established, it is a
long term investment.
This week David Younger from Glasgow had a very good day taking a 10 lb and
a 6 lb Mirror Carp on the maggot, and a 5.1/2 lb, 4 lb, and a 3 lb common
Carp.
On two evening visits this week Nico Hone had a 7 lb and a 5 lb Ghostie, 4lb
1 oz Golden Orfe, 5 lb Common Carp and several smaller, common, crusians and

The Coarse fishing is far more complicated than we had realised to begin
with but we are enjoying learning something new everyday. Andrew Knox was
one of my most regular anglers at the fly fishing when I started 13 years
ago and now he is a regular on the Coarse pond with his wife and son.
Thank you

to say it.
29th June
More people have been trying out the Coarse Fishery this week and enjoying a
good day's sport with a wide variety of fish being caught. It is very
interesting listening to everyone's comments and we have certainly learned a
lot since we opened. The Coarse fish have there likes and dislikes to bait
and weather just like the rainbows. The big Carp has been named ET by
Alex, he has not been caught yet but a lot around the 9 - 10 lbs mark have
been this week.
